The Lost Treasue Of Griffonstone Review

Introduction

Synopsis
    We start at Sugarcube Corner with Pinkie baking whatever Pinkie bakes as Gummy just stands there lifelessly, like always. Pinkie's cutiemark starts pulsing which of course means that the cutie map needs her somewhere, so Pinkie goes to the cutie map leaving Gummy in charge of backing. Yeah and I entrust my cats to turn off the stove and not let my house burn down while I'm gone I'm sure, and intro. In the castle Twilight states that the next place in need of help is Griffonstone, home of the griffons. I'd say I look forward to seeing Gilda back, but I don't want to leave myself disappointed by setting my expectations too high so I'll just roll with it. Twilight goes into a history lesson about the Griffon Kingdom. I'll do my best to summarize this. blah blah blah, griffons were greedy, yadda yadda, lost treasure, really that's all that stuck into my mind from all that. And apparently Rainbowdash cares about as much about the story as I do and she stops her story. Apparently Twilight's beend studying the Griffon Kingdom since the whole Gilda fiasco. So its off to the Griffon Kingdom, though the map says that only Rainbowdash and Pinkie are needed so Twilight dissapointedly stays behind.
 
  On the train ride there which is weird since the map of Equestria shows the griffon homeland is separated by an ocean so I'd assume they'd take a boat or some kind of air travel, eh I guess it's not too important in context with the story, Rainbowdash reads over a Book Twilight wrote them, in a mocking Twilight impression saying that they should carry a bunch of bits with them, and Pinkie just blew all on some sweets, oh Pinkie! They make their stop and walk the rest of the way finally making it to Griffon stone to find that its, quite a wreck. While looking around they run into none other than, Gilda! So I guess my assumption was right. Gilda would appear. Needless to say Gilda and Rainbowdash aren't too happy to see each other. Pinkie ask where their king is and Gilda says that they don't have a king. So instead she ask where the Idol of Boreas is, and a random Griffon, Grampa Gruff offer to the the story, for a fee that is. Apparently that idol of Boreas was what kept the Griffon Kingdom united until it was stolen from the King and was lost in the Abysmal Abyss. That was when Griffonstone started to fall appart and there hasn't been a king since then. And so Rainbowdash sets off to find the Idol of Boreas while Pinkie looks for the library as Twilight said to find some answers there. Pinkie runs into Gilda again and Gilda points her to the library, or what's left of it. Pinkie believes that the problem with the griffons can't just be about the Idol of Boreas. Also Gilda is selling griffon scones which Pinkie buys one of and loses some teeth trying it. Gilda says that just trying make enough money to leave Griffonstone and Pinkie offers to help her with that.

    Rainbowdash is continuing her quest for the idol with a pretty greedy griffon. Pinkie helps Gilda out by adding baking powder to the griffon scones, that she always carries around, makes sense, since Pinkie lives in a bakery I guess. A griffon gets distracted by the nice smell and gets bumped down by another griffon. Gilda tries to help her up and she just pull her arm away and walks off. Gilda tells Pinkie that it's just some griffon she know's named Gretta and that they don't have friends in Griffonstone, and Pinkie remembers Rainbowdash and goes looking for her. Back with Rainbowdash since the Abysmal Abyss is too windy to fly in Rainbowdash has to be lowered by a rope, but the rope breaks and she gets trapped on a ledge. Rainbowdash tells the griffon that she needs another rope, but since she doesn't have any more bits the griffon just leaves. Okay, I know most of the griffons are greedy but this one is just f*cked up just leaving someone to die. But thankfully Pinkie finds her and withought a long enough rope she goes to Gilda for help, Gilda refuses at first but then Pinkie ask if she remembers when they use to be, and we get a flashback of Gilda and Rainbow back when they were little. Didn't know they knew eachother that long. Gilda finally agrees to help but says that it still doesn't mean that their friends. Pinkie lowers Gilda on another rope but then the ledge Rainbow was on breaks and she falls thus Pinkie jumps in after her dragging Gilda down with her. Pinkie manages to grab Rainbowdash while Gilda grabs onto another ledge saving all of them as Rainbow and Pinkie are still dangling on the rope, and Gilda sees the idol of Boreas right behind her. Gilda tries to reach for it but Pinkie is lossing her grip on Rainbowdash and ultimately Gilda pulls them both up as
the idol falls deeper into the abyss and Gilda says they they're more important to her than the Idol of Boreas, and thus they climb out of the Abysmal Abyss.
    
    Gilda apologizes for the why she treated them, Rainbow is pretty down about losing the idol but Pinkie tells her that the map didn't send them there for that, it was to help spread friendship in Griffonstone. Pinkie then tells Gilda to give Greta her scone and make a friend. Greta accepted it and says she liked it, and Gilda says that was the nicest thing any other Griffon said to her, and Pinkie and Rainbow's cutie's start pulsing again, so looks like their job is done. So with Pinkie and Rainbow leaving it's up to Gilda to spread the magic of friendship in Griffonstone as Gilda has not only fixed her old friendship with Rainbowdash but also gaining Pinkie as a friend and seems well on her way on making a new friend in Greta. Oh and by the way, Gummy hasn't moved a bit since Pinkie left him, he's blinking so I guess he's still alive.


Final verdict
    The Griffon Kingdom! I gotta say, it's really interesting to see where griffons come from. Guess Josh Scorcher was right, griffons are jerks. Oh and it's really awesome to see Gilda back and make amends, it's been 4 seasons since Gilda left on a sour note. Also turns out that the map can sometimes send only certain main six members at a time. Also liked alot of the jokes, like Rainbowdash's impression of Twilight changing her hair to match Twilight's, and Pinkie of course has alot of funny moments too, but that's pretty much saying the sky is blue, one of my really favorite Pinkie moments was then Pinkie make those new facial expressions as she ate some of Gilda's Scones and ended up losing so many teeth, I can only assume she keeps some of Zecora's teeth growing potion hidden in her hair. So all in all, yeah I'd say this is a pretty solid episode, plenty of fun, world building, the return of Gilda, and even some feels. I'm really gonna miss Amy Keating Rogers when she goes away to disney.

    Yep, this is another one of those episodes that took a while for me to see how great it truly was, so as of now I've upgraded this episode from a gold to an honorary platinum!
